Diana Marques is a researcher with a PhD on the representation of the Middle Ages in contemporary fantasy literature, specifically in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. She is also a researcher at the University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies (ULICES), in Research Group 1 ¿ English Studies: Literature. She also teaches English as a Second Language at ISEC Lisboa, and she's a member of Messengers from the Stars, an interdisciplinary research group devoted to the study of science fiction and fantasy. In 2013, she concluded her MA with a dissertation on the importance of the sword Excalibur in some medieval Arthurian texts produced in England.. Some of her research interests include: Medievalism and Neomedievalism, Fantasy Literature, Medieval English Literature and Culture, Arthurian legend.
