Fernando Pinheiro obtained his PhD degree from University of Porto in 2006, analysing the structure, evolution and variability of solar type stars. Since then, he worked in several national and international institutions (e.g. Centro de Física Computacional da Universidade de Coimbra and LESIA laboratory from the Paris Observatory), collaborating in national and international projects such as CoRoT and THOR-SR. Since 2012 Fernando Pinheiro is a researcher from Centro de Investigação da Terra e do Espaço da Universidade de Coimbra (CITEUC), having developed an additional interest in Geomagnetism and Space Weather, with a particular emphasis on the study of geomagnetically induced currents (GICs). Indeed, he participated in the first project to the study of GICs in the Portuguese mainland power network, being in charge of the task dedicated to GIC computations. Moreover, at CITEUC he evaluated the conditions required by a space weather monitoring service, having developed computational tools required to the development of the first Portuguese web portal exclusively dedicated to this topic: SPINLab. On the other hand, Fernando Pinheiro frequently participates in the transfer of knowledge to society. His activity includes training of undergraduate to doctoral students, and the participation in regular outreach activities, including several articles published in the local press. Likewise, he is an active member of the scientific community, currently being a member of the Portuguese Astronomical Society's General Assembly.
