Dr. Sara Machado is an LSE Fellow in the Department of Health Policy, London School of Economics. Prior to joining LSE, she concluded her PhD in Economics at Boston University. Dr. Machado's research currently focuses on blood donations, organ transplantation, and access to care in cardiovascular disease. Her research investigates the behavior of blood and organ supply, demand and allocation, particularly in response to exogenous shocks and policy changes. She is committed to building bridges between researchers, policy-makers, and health care practitioners. In 2019, Dr. Machado was appointed as the William Harvey Distinguished Chair Scholar at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a role that serves to build a transatlantic bridge between LSE and the Harvard Teaching Hospital. In this role, she works with a collaborative team to research and develop rigorous analyses of the most pressing problems faced by our health care systems to contribute to the ongoing health care policy debate.
