My research activity focuses on marine ecology, mainly applied to fisheries. As part of my research, I study pressures and impacts on vulnerable deep-water species and ecosystems, applying the ecosystem approach to fisheries management, and addressing among others questions related to fishing selectivity, discard and bycatch. I studied fisheries sciences and marine ecology, option "Aquatic Resources and Ecosystems" in Agrocampus Ouest (France), and undertook my Master Thesis "Global overview of the status of shark fisheries and management" in the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (USA). I obtained my Diploma of Advanced Agronomy (equivalent Master 2) from Agrocampus Ouest in 2009. After a work experience of 18 months as applied statistician at IFREMER (France), I pursued there my PhD in Marine Ecology and Fisheries Sciences "Detailed and empirical characterization of catch: contribution to the ecosystemic approach of fisheries", that I completed in 2014. Since 2016, I have integrated the Institute of Marine Sciences - OKEANOS, University of the Azores / IMAR (Portugal), where I have worked on discard and bycatch related projects: EU H2020 "DiscardLess" (post-doc, 2016-2019), Mar2020 "SOS TubaProf" (Principal Investigador, 2020-2023) and Horizon Europe "Marine Beacon" (Principal Investigador, since 2024), and on projects related to deep-sea ecosystems: EU H2020 "ATLAS" (post-doc, 2019), EU Horizon Europe "Marine Plan" (researcher, since 2023) and "Azores Habitat Map" (researcher, 2023). I have contributed to 4 book chapters, 1 species identification guide (as first author), 17 peer-reviewed publications (6 as first author) and over 50 reports, in the fields of fisheries sciences and marine ecology. My extensive experience abroad (including internships in Australia and Spain) provided me good connections within the international research community. I have research experience from large EU funded research and experience in supervising students. Within my research activity, I also seek a wide knowledge transfer to different stakeholders (fishers, managers, NGOs), the international scientific community, but also the general public with diverse actions of scientific popularization.
