Cláudia Sofia Ninhos

Cláudia Ninhos has a Junior Research position at Institute of Contemporary History a research unit of the NOVA Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus 2017) and teaches History of Fascism at theNOVA FCSH. She is currently working on an individual project focused on the Portuguese press Coverage of the Holocaust (1933-1945). She coordinated the international research project ¿Portuguese and Spanish Forced Labourers under National Socialism: History, Memory and Citizenship¿, funded by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). She has a mixed academic background in History with minor in German Culture and Language, and a PhD from the NOVA Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in History (Contemporary History), completed in June 2016. Her thesis was on German cultural policy in Portugal and academic exchange during the National-Socialist period. It was awarded the Prémio Victor de Sá 2017, the most prestigious national award for young researchers in Contemporary History. Part of the thesis has been published as a book in 2017. Cláudia Ninhos is a specialist in the history of relations between Portugal and the III Reich and in the history of the Holocaust, and has collaborated on several research projects. In 2013 she co- authored the book Salazar, Portugal, and the Holocaust (in Portuguese) that deals with aspects such as Portuguese diplomacy and knowledge of the Holocaust in Portugal. A summary of the results of this work was published in an international journal (Irene Flunser Pimentel & Cláudia Ninhos (2015) Portugal, Jewish Refugees, and the Holocaust, Dapim: Studies on the Holocaust, 29:2, 101-113, DOI: 10.1080/23256249.2015.1032118) and the following year she published an article about knowledge of the Holocaust in the neutral countries in the book "Bystanders, Rescuers or Perpetrators? The Neutral Countries and the Shoah", is the second volume in the IHRA publication series. She coedited the volumes Nazi Germany and Southern Europe, 1933-45 , 1933-45. Science, Culture and Politics (Palgrave, 2016), and Closing the Door on Globalization: Internationalism, Nationalism, Culture and Science in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centurie (Routledge, 2017). She is a trainer accredited by the University of Minho¿s Scientific-Pedagogic Council for Continuous Training in Area/Domain A39 History/History of Portugal and I regularly participate in teacher training seminars organised by Memoshoa, by the Portuguese History Teachers¿ Association (APH), and by the Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights. In 2018 she participantes in the Winter school ¿Nazi Forced Labour. History and Aftermath. International Winter School for Educators¿ organised by the Nazi Forced Labour Documentation Centre and by the International Tracing Service (ITS) in Bad Arolsen. Co-curated the exhibitions "Portuguese Forced Labourers in the Third Reich" (Centro Cultural de Belém Foundation, November 17, 2017-January 22, 2018) and "1940. L¿EXIL POUR LA VIE" (Archives départementales de la Gironde, Cotober 6, 2020-January 31, 2021).
