Andreia Figueiredo is an Associate Professor at FCUL and the head of the Grapevine Pathogen Systems Lab (GPS lab), devoted to the study of plant-pathogen interactions, focusing on grapevine. To achieve this goal the GPS Lab seeks to define models for the key mechanisms that are early activated and de-activated, both on the host and pathogen sides, that might be a target for biotechnology-based approaches. Currently the group integrates 2 Junior researchers, 6 PhD students, 3 Msc students and 3 visiting students from Italy. On the past five years the group has published more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed international journals (H index=21 Scopus, 26 in Google Scholar) with over 2500 citations. The GPS Lab has six main research areas: 1) identifying, characterizing and engineering plant proteases to improve crop protection; 2) evaluating lipid enrolment on grapevine-pathogen interactions and its impact on hormonal signaling; 3) characterizing host pathogen communication through cell compartments proteomics and metabolomics; 4) identifying the impact of epigenetic modulation (DNA methylation and histone deacetylation) on plant-pathogen cross-talk; 5) understanding the impact of tailoring soil and plant microbiome towards a higher production sustainability and testing different microbial consortia to improve abiotic and biotic stress resistance in crops; 6) defining new elicitor molecules to prime plants resistance. Over the last 5 years, Andreia Figueiredo has significantly extended her collaborative network, adding to the group research new techniques and new points of view that allowed advancing significantly within the subjects. Andreia Figueiredo is a registered reviewer (publons.com/a/308834/), associate editor for Scientific Reports, BMC Plant Biology and Frontiers in Plant Science. She also led 6 special and focus issues as guest editor. She is currently PI of a PRIMA granted project -REVINE: Regenerative agricultural approaches to improve ecosystem services in Mediterranean vineyards and of an HORIZON project - Shield4Grape. She was also PI of 7 research projects and team member of 13, representing a research funding acquisition over 2.5 M euros. Currently she integrates the viticulture experts panel of the Portuguese Committee for the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV). She represents FCUL at the RedeAgro Lisbon University and she is a member of the Portuguese Society of Phytopathology. In Academy, she is in the coordination committee of the BioSys PhD program and of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Masters. She coordinates three curricular units and supervises 7 PhD students and 3 MSc students working on plant-pathogen interaction, proteases and lipids. Since 2015 she completed the supervision of 16 MSc. students, 15 students in advance training/post-graduation courses in plant molecular biology and 3 PhD students.
