Vera Faustino is a graduate in Biomechanics (Polytechnic Institute of Leiria) with a master's degree in Biomedical Technologies (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança - IPB). In September 2022, she finished her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Minho University (CMEMs and Metrics), with a FCT fellowship (SFRH/BD/99696/2014) under the theme "Microfluidic system for cell separation and deformation assessment by using passive methods". During the master's degree she was in San Sebastian, Spain, where she performed one semester international internship in Ceit (Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Técnicas), where she acquired research expertise in a clean room, fabricating microstructures with photolithography techniques to produce microfluidics channels for blood cells separation. She was a research fellow at CEFT (FEUP - University of Porto), under the funded project "CSD-CHIP - Development of an integrated biomedical microdevice for blood cell separation and deformation" (PTDC/SAU-BEB/105650/2008). She was also an invited researcher at the Engineering School of Tohoku University (Japan). In 2014 she was a research fellow at CIMO, under the exploratory project "MicroBloodSystems - Blood rheology and blood cell migration in microfluidic systems" (EXPL/EMS-SIS/2215/2013). She also developed knowledge in cells cultures (human and animal) in CIMO, IPB. Later, in 2019, she was a research fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) under the FCT project "An Advanced microCooling System based on innovative Nanofluids and acoustic streaming" (NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-030171). During that time, she was in an international internship (2020), at Centro Singular de Investigación en Química Biológica y Materiales Moleculares (CIQUS), University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, under the IACOBUS Program, to characterize nanofluids by a microthermal conductivity analysis. She has been enrolled in several R&D projects (9), as fellowship researcher, team member and collaborator roles, published 22 papers in international journals, 6 book chapters, and presented 3 oral communications in national and international scientific meetings. She has a total of 645 citations and h-index 11 (Scopus Author ID: 56088655800). Vera Faustino tutored the laboratorial work of 10 students of master degrees (Micro/Nano Technologies, Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Technologies, from University of Minho, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and Universidad de Extremadura). She also, supervised a master student with dissertation entitled: Nanocarrier-based microfluidic system for characterization of malaria-infected cells. She also peer-reviewed articles in several SCOPUS-indexed international journals (as Membranes; Diagnostics; Micromachines; Journal of Personalized Medicine; Nutrients; Life; Applied Sciences; Bioengineering and Biomedicines). She is guest editor in a special issue of the Applied Sciences Journal entitled "Next Generation Lab-on-a-Chip Devices". Recently, she was working under the project "Multiplexed micro(bio)sensors array integrated into an organ-on-a-chip device for assessing cancer" (PTDC/EEI-EEE/2846/2021) as a pos-doc researcher.
