Paulo David Nunes Barradas is a graduate of the Chemistry program at FCTUC, having earned a final grade of 18/20 in his Bachelor's degree. He recently completed his Master's in Advanced and Industrial Chemistry, specializing in Experimental and Theoretical Physical Chemistry at FCTUC, achieving a final grade of 19/20 and a perfect 20/20 for his thesis, entitled "The Chemistry and Photochemistry of Chitosan Randomly Labeled Polymers and Cationic Ladder-Type Polymers Containing Pyrene as a Fluorescence Probe." Paulo's research trajectory commenced in 2019 as a Scientific Initiation Fellow at the Chemical Center of Coimbra (CQC), where he acquired practical expertise in photochemistry and computational quantum chemistry, with a particular emphasis on CO-releasing molecules (PhotoCORMs). His Bachelor's thesis on this topic was awarded a grade of 19/20. In 2020, Paulo further expanded his expertise by interning with the photochemistry group at CQC, where he mastered a range of spectroscopic techniques and quantum chemical calculations. He subsequently assumed the role of research fellow in the SASCOT project, co-authoring a paper published in Frontiers in Chemistry. In 2022, Paulo commenced work on his Master's thesis, which focused on the synthesis and functionalization of polymers within the organic chemistry group at CQC. Additionally, he completed an internship at the University of Wuppertal in Germany, where he synthesized novel ladder-type dizapentacenium polymers. His Master's thesis entails a photochemical and photophysical investigation of the aforementioned synthesized polymers, with at least two publications anticipated from this research. He has already published a first-author paper, entitled "Chitosan Polymers Randomly Labeled with Pyrene: Synthesis, Photophysics, and Selective Quenching by Metal Cations and Anions," in the Journal of Molecular Liquids (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.molliq.2024.123982). Paulo is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in chemistry with a specialization in photochemistry. He is the recipient of a grant bearing the code 2023.02479.BD. His doctoral research is centered on the development of materials that facilitate singlet fission, a collaborative endeavor undertaken in conjunction with the University of Coimbra and the University of Wuppertal in Germany. Paulo has developed a comprehensive expertise in a range of spectroscopic and ultrafast techniques, quantum chemical computational packages, and programming languages, including Python and MATLAB, which he employs to solve intricate kinetic schemes.
