I consider myself a Wildlife Ecologist with broad research interests in the ecology, epidemiology and wildlife management of small and medium size mammal populations. During my PhD I studied the ecology, epidemiology and management of wild rabbit populations. Much of my research has focused on the improvement of habitat management measures for conservation of wild rabbits as a key prey for extremely endangered species such as the Iberian lynx and the Iberian imperial eagle. After that I worked for Landcare Research Ltd. New Zealand for five years and a half where I focused my research on the ecology and tuberculosis epidemiology of the introduced brushtail possum in dryland areas and native forest in New Zealand. This included population density estimates, animal movement, spatial ecology and habitat selection analyses, interaction between invasive species and the mechanisms for transmission of tuberculosis in the wild. From 2015 to 2019 I worked as a researcher at University of Cordoba through two competitive grants. In 2019 I got a lecturer position at the Ecology area. And in 2022 I got an Associate Professor position at the University of Seville in the Department of Plant Biology and Ecology where I stablish a research line entitled Wildlife Ecology and Epidemiology. In my current position as I combine my research on the impact of viral diseases on wild rabbit and Iberian hare population, studying spillover events and the impact of zoonotic diseases in wildlife in an agricultural interface. I have experience in carrying out fieldwork in isolated and remote areas, in coordinating field and lab teams and I have supervised several students, including 17 bachelors, 5 Masters and 3 PhD students. I have sought my own research funding, managed grants, published 72 SCI articles and have communicated my research results to both specialised and wide audiences.
