Daniela Martins Mendes is an Internal Medicine Specialist and Liver Disease subespecialist at Hospital Escola of Fernando Pessoa University (UFP). She is Deputy Director of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of UFP (SMBS), President of the Pedagogic Council, Deputy Director of the Medicine Integrated Masters’ of SMBS, and Associate Professor at UFP. She obtained her PhD in Medicine and Molecular Oncology in 2014 at Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto (FMUP) with the thesis "Clinical and molecular effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in diabetic foot ulcers healing" under supervision of Professor Raquel Soaresf. She obtained a Specialty in Internal Medicine at Centro Hospitalar de Vila Nova de Gaia/ Espinho (CHVNG/E) in 2014, Liver Diseases subespeciality in 2022 and a Degree in Medicine at ICBAS (Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar) in 2004. She is a Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Biomedicine at FMUP since 2015 and a Research Member at RISE-Health UFP since 2024. She previously worked as an Internal Medicine Specialist at CHVNG/E since November 2014, where she had done her residency, and was a research member at i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde) from 2015 till 2024. She has published 18 papers in indexed journals and 8 in peer-reviewed journals and has an h-index of 9. She has more than 1093 citations. She has a completed supervision of a PhD student and currently supervises 4. She was a researcher in 7 projects, being PI in 3. She received 12 awards. She has presented over 25 invited oral communicatios and authored/co-authored over 25 oral communications and over 80 posters. She has participated in more than 50 courses (including the 12th European School of Internal Medicine of the European Foundation of Internal Medicine, Greenwich; 7th Clinical Research Seminar of the Foundation for the Development of Internal Medicine in Europe and European Foundation of Internal Medicine, Paris; Robert Turner Clinical Research Course da European Association for the Study of Diabetes, Oxford; Research Governance and Good Clinical Practice training course, Oxford; 2nd Research Project Management, Oporto) and over 120 congresses, meetings and workshops. She works in the area of Internal Medicine and Basic Medicine with research in several domains such as Diabetes and Diabetic Foot, Aging, Cancer, Hepatology and Hospital at Home. She was a member of Diabetic Foot Outpatient Clinic of CHVNG/E from 2009 till 2021; member of the Hospital at Home Unit of CHVNG/E since its beggining in 2018 until July 2021; member of the Wound Comission of CHVNG/E from 2017 till July 2021 and coordinator of the Hepatology Group of the Internal Medicine Department of CHVNG/E from 2017 untill July 2021. She is a member of several national and international medical societies including Portuguese Society of Diabetology (SPD) - she was co-coordinator of GIFT (Fundamental and Translational Research Group of SPD) and is a member of GIFT and GEPED (Diabetic Foot Study Group of SPD)-; Internal Medicine Portuguese Society (SPMI), being a member of its Study Groups in Diabetes; Liver diseases and Hospital at Home; Portuguese Society for Wound Treatment (APTF); European Association for the Study of Diabetes; European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM) and Young Internists Group of the European Federation of Internal Medicine; European Underwater and Baromedical Society; Portuguese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She was a member of the organizing committe of 7 meetings. She is a member of CECLIN (Centre for Clinical Studies) at HE-UFP.
