Dulce Geraldo, completed her Doctorate in Science in 1997, specializing in Chemistry from the University of Minho and her Undergraduate degree in Physics and Chemistry Teaching in 1989 from the University of Minho. Her research focuses mainly on the area of electroanalysis, particularly in the development of sensors using nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, as well as biosensors for the determination of toxins. The techniques that have been applied in various works include cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry in the characterization of antioxidant activity in products of natural origin such as wine, fruits, beverages, evaluated on electrodes of different materials. She is co-author of three patents focused on the development of electrochemical methods for the evaluation of antioxidant capacity and polyphenols in complex matrices. In addition to these techniques, chronoamperometry and exhaustive electrolysis were used to elucidate the oxidation mechanism of compounds with antimicrobial activity to be used in medical textiles and establish the structure-activity relationship. The anodic redissolution voltammetry technique was used to evaluate the lifetime of dry Ti-Metal electrodes used in the rehabilitation of muscle injuries or in the recovery of an individual's mobility. Recently she has developed research work in the field of sustainability, conducting studies on the removal of contaminants such as heavy metals and pharmaceuticals from water using a compound obtained from organic waste.
