I obtained my BSc in Geomatics (Engenharia Geográfica) at the University of Lisbon in 2003, and started an industrial career on GIS, aerial photography, cartography and geodesy, assuming several roles in different companies, including working two years in Angola as CTO of the largest Angolan aerial photography company. In 2008, I finished my MSc in Geophysics at the University of Oporto. I started an academic career in 2011, working on seismic interferometry for exploration data. For the past decade, I worked in active and passive seismic experiments, aimed at studying passive margins, local seismicity and tomographic imaging, among others. I am very skilled on both land-based and ocean-bottom instruments, having designed several scientific packages for both environments. In 2015, I was invited by the Geophysical Centre of the University of Brasília, Brazil, to teach a short course on wide-angle seismic refraction modelling, in collaboration with Dr. José Soares (UNB) and Dr. Marcus Lima (UniPampa). I worked on four wide-angle seismic refraction joint projects of IDL and IFREMER( SANBA, MAGIC and SALSA) aimed at imaging different segments of passive margins in the South Atlantic, and providing constrains for the break-up of West-Gondwana. MOZ3/5 was aimed at Limpopo Basin and Natal valley margin, in Mozambique and South Africa. I took part in the planning, deployment and retrieval of OBS and land stations; pre-processement (OBS relocalization, clock drift removal, creation of shot gathers and first arrivals picking for coarse tomographic imaging); and forward-modelled several WAS profiles. I concluded my PhD in 2017, where I studied the Cretaceous breakup of Gondwana and modelled and interpreted lower crust exhumation in the Jequitinhonha Basin, at the Camamu triple point. I developed VMONTECARLO to directly estimate a measure of uncertainty at every model location, but also alternative models with similar data fit to the preferred model. This tool is regarded as a breakthrough and has become a standard model evaluation tool for forward-modelled WAS profiles. I also applied seismic interferometry to OBS data to increase the amount of information that can be extracted by increasing the number of identifiable arrivals and improve the picking accuracy. I have attended three workshops and training schools organized by the TIDES Cost Action ES1401, aimed at imaging the Earth with seismic ambient noise. TIDES also funded two Short Term Scientific Missions for seismic interferometry and full-waveform inversion. From 2019 to 2021, I worked on the DUNE project, where I took part on the development of a new broadband OBS type, designed to reduce the tidal noise on the instrument¿s hull. I was directly responsible for designing the electronics packages, such as dataloggers, signal conditioning interfaces, acoustic release systems, and programming consoles. I was directly involved in the fabrication and testing of the new instruments. I am extremely well-versed in OBS technology and the challenges that seafloor datasets pose. I was an OBS specialist on the UPFLOW project (ERC Grant 101001601), where I was responsible for the assembling, testing, programming, deployment and recovery of 46 OBS in the North Atlantic Ocean, spanning from Flores to Madeira islands. I also trained several PhD students on OBS technology. At Politec & ID, I did 3D tomographic inversions for the SALSA, MAGIC and MOZ3-5 missions on HPC to bring further insights into the lateral variability within the basins and across the continental slopes. I am currently working at ARDITI, with a CEEC contract, developing tools to explore the datasets generated by the DS isntalled on the Geolab optic fibre in Funchal, Portugal. Additionally, I am also using Machine Learning tools to link OBS current-induced noise to ocean bottom currents. In the past five years, works that I have authored or co-authored had 270 citations (h-index=10).
