I am Research Assistant at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes - cE3c of the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidade de Lisboa, and an honorary researcher at the University of Exeter. I am the Principal Investigator of the project 'Survie des Tortues Marines au niveau de l'Archipel des Bijagos - STM' (2023-2026), funded by the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of the Coastal and Marine Zone (PRCM). My research focuses on several aspects of sea turtle ecology, including migrations and connectivity, population dynamics, climate change impacts, trophic ecology, and emerging diseases. My recent works have led to some important breakthroughs, including unravelling the connectivity of green turtles across West Africa, which has resulted in solid partnerships and regional agreements. I have also identified new sites of conservation priority for sea turtles in the region. In addition to my research efforts, I strongly believe in participatory conservation, capacity building, and science communication, and have made a significant contribution to raising awareness and building capacity among key stakeholders and resource users. Currently, I supervise three Ph.D. students (FCUL and Ispa) and four MSc students (Ispa, FCUL, and UALG), and have previously supervised seven MSc theses and three post-doctoral researchers. I have published a total of 37 peer-reviewed scientific papers, including 11 as the first author, six as the senior author, and a book chapter. In May 2024, my research work has been cited 822 times, and I have an h-index of 17 in Google Scholar (18 in Research Gate). My mean impact factor in papers published as PI and first author over the last five years is 5.996 (range IF: 2.915 to 13.211). I earned my Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Exeter, UK, in 2017, and my MSc in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, USA, in 2011.
