I am an interdisciplinary complexity scientist. I have a Ph.D. in the Complex Networks & Systems track of Informatics from the School of Informatics, Computing & Engineering at Indiana University (IU; IN, USA); and a M.Sc. in Business Administration and a B.Sc in Management Information Systems from the Universidade Regional de Blumenau (FURB; Brazil). I held a postdoctoral position at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), a life sciences institute in Oeiras, Portugal, on an FCT grant I helped secure. Currently, I am the CEO of a tech-startup, and a visiting researcher both at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (Oeiras, Portugal) and Binghamton University (NY, USA). I have 20 published papers from which 11 are in peer-reviewed international journals, totaling 180 citations and an h-index of 6 (Google Scholar). These include publications in top academic journals, such as the Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing (Q1 in Computer Science, SJR); Epilepsy & Behavior (Q2 in Medicine, JSR); Journal of Complex Networks (Q2 in Applied Mathematics, JSR); Nature Digital Medicine (Q3 in Computer Science Applications, SJR); Frontiers in Physiology (Q2 in Physiology, SJR); and even a publication and cover on Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (PNAS, Q1 in Multidisciplinary, SJR), the 2nd most cited scientific journal in the world. My scientific output has been picked up by major news outlets including Público, RTP Notícias, SIC Notícias, and Observador in Portugal; and G1, in Brazil. I have given 20+ oral presentations in major conferences in my field, such as the Conference on Complex Systems, Complex Networks, and NetSci; and 2 keynote lectures. I co-taught the PhD-level class Introduction to Informatics at IU; and taught the B.Sc. level classes General Systems Theory, Management Information Systems, and Foundations in Information Systems at FURB as a substitute professor. I am co-advising 2 Ph.D. students, I have co-advised one M.Sc. student, and I have advised 4 B.Sc. students and 1 specialization student. I have also worked as a full stack software developer and managed a technology development and transfer laboratory with a triple helix concept (industry-university-government) leading 3 large-scale projects, including the development of a city-wide health information system with a 1.7M dollar budget. I was awarded a competitive fully-funded PhD fellowship from CAPES Foundation, and two competitive travel grants, one from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). I have applied to 2 FCT grants, the latest in 2019 as co-PI which received the 9th scoring position where only 7 submissions were awarded (9.2% funding rate). I have co-organized one international conference (Complex Networks) and one international retreat. I am currently leading a team that has been awarded a competitive grant to organize an international interdisciplinary symposium at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência. Lastly, I have participated in multiple public outreach activities showcasing the importance of complexity science for society and the future generations.
