Inês Isabel da Conceição Lapa Brasiela is a researcher at the Center for Translational Health and Medical Biotechnology Research (TBIO), part of the Health Research Network (RISE - Health). Her work focuses on Occupational Health and Environmental Health, with significant contributions to areas such as Ergonomics, Work Accident Prevention, and Public Health, particularly concerning Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMSDs). Supported by a PhD studentship from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), she is currently pursuing a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minho, where she is developing a predictive model and operational guidelines to mitigate occupational risks in the retail sector. In 2024, she completed her Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety from the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, where she also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health in 2022, having been recognized as the best student of her cohort. Her academic and scientific excellence has been internationally acknowledged, earning her the prestigious Young Scientist Award at the 12th International Conference on Working on Safety in Dresden, Germany. Inês actively participates in research projects, including MSD@RETAIL, which focuses on preventing WRMSDs in the retail sector, and ErgoBus, which explores innovative ergonomic approaches to improve workplace safety and health. During her undergraduate studies, she contributed to the Mad@Work project, investigating workplace risk factors. Inês has authored several scientific publications, including a chapter in Occupational and Environmental Safety VI, and a article published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. She has also presented her work at international events such as WOS 2024, where she discussed the initial results of a decision-making tool for classifying overexertion work-related accidents, and SHO 2024, where she addressed challenges related to workplace accidents in the retail sector. With a strong commitment to translating scientific evidence into practical solutions, Inês also mentors emerging researchers, guiding students in areas such as ergonomics, WMSD prevention, and lifestyle assessments for retail workers. Additionally, she has organized scientific events, such as the TBIO Annual Meeting 2024, fostering collaboration between researchers and industry professionals. Her research combines ergonomic approaches, anthropometric assessments, and risk management strategies, aiming to promote workplace safety and well-being. Dedicated to improving working conditions and occupational health, Inês Lapa is establishing herself as a leading researcher, developing innovative solutions for sectors with high physical demands, such as food retail.
