Isadora Monteiro
Isadora Monteiro is a PhD student in History and Philosophy of Science. In 2017, she completed her Bachelor's degree in General
Studies (minor in Classics). And in 2022, she completed her Master's degree in HPS at the Faculty of Science (University of
Lisbon) with the thesis "The forces that balance the universe: revisiting Robert Hooke", supervised by Professor Ricardo Coelho
and she also published the paper "On Hooke's Rule of Nature", which focuses on the presentation of Hooke's Law (1678). In
2023 she co-authored the paper "From science communication to science education: the educational assessment of an outreach-oriented
science centre" and she also published "The Blazing World or a woman's attempt to escape from her human condition". In 2024,
she also published the first translation into Portuguese of a text by Robert Hooke, namely "Lições de Potentia Restitutiva
ou da Mola", with an introduction about the author, complemented by a preface written by Professor Carlos Fiolhais and a note
to the reader written by Professor Ricardo Lopes Coelho. Currently, she has been awarded a scholarship in partnership with
the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology to pursue a Ph.D. Her research will
investigate the emergence of the first telescopes in early modern Europe. She is also determined to pursue an academic career.
