Berfu Güley Gören Soares is a Principle Researcher at the CICS.NOVA at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Nova FCSH). She holds a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning, a MSc. in Urban Planning from Istanbul Technical University (Turkey), and a Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Yildiz Technical University (Istanbul/Turkey). Additionally, she holds second Degree in Sociology from Istanbul University. During her undergraduate studies in Urban and Regional Planning, she studied Architecture and Urbanism at Università degli Studi di Catania in Italy as an Erasmus student. She has worked as a Dr. Researcher at Nova School of Business and Economics, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA SBE) in Lisbon, Portugal, as well as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture at Istanbul Arel University in Istanbul, Turkey. Additionally, she has taught at various universities such as Politecnico di Bari (Bari, Italy), Universidade de Aveiro (Aveiro, Portugal), and Universidade Fernando Pessoa (Porto, Portugal) through teaching mobility programs. Berfu is a multilingual academic and has attended numerous scientific meetings and conferences, where she has presented papers on various topics related to urban planning, design, and sociology. She is involved in various European projects focusing on urban sustainability, accessibility, and social inclusion. She has also volunteered with disability and children's associations and organized workshops on disability and children's issues at universities. Her research interests include accessibility, active mobility, friendly environments for vulnerable groups, inclusive design, marginalisation, mobility, play, public space, sustainability, urban design, urban sociology, and walkability. She is fluent in Turkish, English, Italian, and Portuguese.
