Rafael da Costa Coelho Ferreira, MSc in Environmental Science and Technology and BSc in Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. In his master's thesis he led the quantification of carbon sequestration in the Porto Botanical Garden, focusing specifically on the analysis of soil and perennial tree biomass. In order to complete his degree he developed and implemented methodological approaches to evaluate the phytotoxic effects of the herbicide glyphosate on the development and homeostasis of a vineyard cover crop. He currently cooperates as a Research Collaborator in the Vineprotect project at IB2Lab, with the aim of finding fungi that have PGP (plant-growth-promoter) potential in grapevines. For this purpose he employs phosphate solubilization techniques and siderophore production assays. He also applies antagonism protocols in Petri dishes with Trichodermas, against fungi that cause Esca disease.
