Hermínia Maria Pimenta Ferreira Sol

Hermínia Sol is an Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (Portugal), where she teaches English, Screenwriting as well as culture related subjects. She obtained her BA in English and Portuguese Studies from the University of Coimbra (Portugal), her MA Hons in Women’s Studies from the University of Limerick (Ireland) and was awarded a summa com laude PhD in American Literature from the University of Coimbra (Portugal). She is the Director of IPT’s R&D Unit Technology, Restoration and Arts Enhancement Center (TECHN&ART) and a researcher at the University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies (ULICES). Her first book, entitled: Paul Bowles in Portugal was published in 2019. Her research interests focus on the dialogue between cinema and literature, travel writing, storytelling, and 20th century American history. Yet, her overall interest deals with the role of ideology in narrative construction and on how it shapes people’s perception of reality. Recently, she has been conducting research in the fields of cultural heritage preservation narratives and memory studies. As a result, she has embarked on projects such as PAPER TRAILS: Post-industrial histories, technical memories and art practices (http://www.papertrails.techneart.ipt.pt/en/paper_trails/) and she is currently working on a Digital Humanities project that aims at recovering a share of Mário de Oliveira photographic estate connected with the work commissioned by the Portuguese furniture makers OLAIO. Lastly, her interest in cinema has led her to produce the short photo-documentary THE PLEASANT FEELING OF BEING IN A MORE INNOCENT AGE: PAUL BOWLES'S IMPRESSIONS ON PORTUGAL (2009) and to serve as executive producer of the documentary WATERMARK (2023) (yet to be released).
