Beatriz Figueiredo Rodrigues

I'm a PhD student at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC, Coimbra). With a bachelor's degree in biomedical science from the University of Aveiro (2014), I earned my master's degree in cell and molecular biology from the University of Coimbra in 2016. In 2017, I won a PhD fellowship funded by FCT to develop my project about Synapse function, Chronic stress, and microRNAs, in the Synapse Biology group, headed by Prof. Ana Luisa Carvalho, at CNC - Coimbra, affiliated to the Doctoral program of Experimental Biology and Biomedicine (III, University of Coimbra). During these six years, I learned everything from primary cell cultures to fluorescence microscopy, electrophysiology to biochemistry, molecular biology to data and statistical analysis. As a co-supervisor, I was in charge of two students. My work was published in the PNAS journal (Five-Year Impact Factor: 12.291), as well as presented in 11 conference posters and eight oral presentations across Europe. I've been focusing on Basic Medicine with an emphasis on Neurosciences, which includes the study of glutamatergic synapses and AMPA receptors, stress and glucocorticoid receptors, microRNAs, and cognition. From March to June 2020, I engaged as a volunteer member of the COVID-19 laboratory's first team at the University of Coimbra, and in 2021, I co-reviewed a manuscript for the Neurobiology of Stress publication.
