LUIS PEDRO FERNANDES RESENDE

Luis Pedro Resende completed his PhD in Basic and Applied Biology with distinction, from his studies performed at the Salk Institute, San Diego, and University of California, Los Angeles. In addition to these two prestigious institutions, Pedro was trained at other top institutions such as the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology from University of Porto, Pfizer, UK, and Institute for Innovation and Health (i3S), Porto. In the last 10 years, Pedro authored 9 publications on the context of his PhD and Postdoctoral research projects, in high impact journals such as Science, Journal of Cell Biology, Cell Reports, and Current Opinion on Cell Biology. Pedro initiated his path towards scientific independence authoring his first publications as corresponding author, attracting competitive funding as PI (350K Euros grants and 200K Euros in fellowships/contracts), and received the European Commission MSCA Seal of Excellence on the basis of independent line of research. In addition to his role as researcher, Pedro co-founded two professional associations: NEBUP, the Porto Biology students Association, and the GABBA PhD Program Alumni Association. Pedro is co-founder and Director of Chaperone, an online platform for career development, aiming to democratize access to high level career support. Chaperone was recognised and awarded as a social impact company by international entities, and has already supported scientists from over 20 countries. Pedro regularly lectures at international Universities on the topics of cancer, stem cell biology and scientific career development, and in 2017 was invited by the Ministry of Health to work as consultant for the area of Innovation in Health.
