Elizabete de Castro Mendonça

Graduated (1999) in Museology from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). Master's (2003) and PhD (2008) in Visual Arts - with an emphasis on the Image and Culture line of research - from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She developed post-doctoral research (2017-2019) entitled "Documentação em Museus e Salvaguarda do Património Imaterial: desafios e potencialidades da Gestão Integrada do Património como instrumento de Democracia Cultural em museus portugueses e brasileiros", in the area of Museology, at the Department of Heritage Studies, University of Porto. She is currently an Associate Professor III, with exclusive dedication at the Department of Museological Studies and Processes (DEPM/UNIRIO) and the Postgraduate Program in Museology and Heritage (PPG-PMUS/UNIRIO-MAST). She was a full professor at the Museology Center and the Graduate Program in Archaeology (PROARQ) at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) from 2009-2013. She has also worked as a collaborating professor at PROARQ/UFS (2013-2019), as a museologist at the Museum of the Polytechnic School of UFRJ (2008-2009), and has participated in various projects in the field of Museology at institutions such as the Xingó Archaeology Museum (2009-2013); the Cartola Cultural Center (2007-2009), the National Museum (1996-2001, 2003-2006), and the National Center for Folklore and Popular Culture (2001-2008), Army Historical Museum/Forte de Copacabana and the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (1999-2001). She was director of the School of Museology at UNIRIO (2013-2017), coordinator of the Museology Course at UFS (2010-2012), member of the Management Committee of the Brazilian Museum System/Brazilian Institute of Museums (2014-2016), member of the Advisory Committee of the Museum System of the State of Rio de Janeiro (2015-2017). She has experience in Museology, mainly on topics related to Musealization; Cultural Heritage Management; Collections Management; Museum Documentation; Museum; Traditional Knowledge and Intangible Heritage. She is a collaborator at the Center for Transdisciplinary Research on Culture, Space and Memory (CITCEM) at the University of Porto, as a Researcher; leader of the CNPq Study and Research Group on Museology, Traditional Knowledge and Social Action (GEMCTAS) and Coordinator of the Multidimensional Nucleus of Heritage Management and Documentation in Museums (NUGEP), Unirio.
