Dr Ossi Joonas Nokelainen FLS. My research mainly focuses on coloration, polymorphism and predator-prey interactions. I use multispectral imaging, vision modelling and experimental approaches at the interface of sensory, behavioural, and evolutionary ecology. I am interested in how perception shapes the function(s) of colours, and also, how different functions trade-off with each other and get optimised. Although birds are close to my heart, I work with various study organisms across the world including birds, crabs, mammals, butterflies, moths and many more. Completed the Doctor of Philosophy in 2013/04/01 at the Department of Biological and Environmental Science. Published approximately 30 peer-reviewed articles in 30 journals (incl. Nature Ecology and Evolution, Proceedings of the Royal Society, Journal of Animal Ecology). Peer-reviewed articles for 28 scientific journals. Participates and/or participated as Post-doctoral Fellow in 3 project(s). Works in the area(s) of Natural sciences with emphasis on Biological Sciences with emphasis on Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Behavioural and Sensory Ecology. Also, a chair of a BirdLife partner in Central Finland. Was granted the Title of the Docent 2023 in Ecology and Environmental Sciences from the Faculty and Mathematics and Science at University of Jyväskylä. Holds a position as Information Specialist at University of Jyväskylä Open Science Centre.
