Érika Sousa (ES) is a graduate with an academic master's degree in Chemistry from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Maranhão (Brazil) with a research line in analytical chemistry. ES has extensive experience in the application of pre-concentration methods applied to the determination of organic compounds in water and food analysis. In addition, ES has experience in the application of adsorbent materials for pharmaceutical removal from water. ES was a research fellow at the University of Aveiro in Portugal in the scope of the project WasteMAC - Industrial wastes as new resources for microwave- assisted production of magnetic activated carbons - application in the removal of pharmaceuticals from water, POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028598, co-funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia I.P. (PIDDAC) and the European Regional Development Fund FEDER, through the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program (COMPETE 2020). Currently ES has a PhD scholarship funded by FCT entitled "Functionalization and molecular imprinting of activated carbons for the selective removal of antibiotics from wastewater".
