Virgílio B. Mendes is Associate Professor in the Department of Geographical Engineering, Geophysics and Energy. He holds a Diploma in Geographic Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (1987) and a Ph.D. degree in Surveying Engineering from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, in 1998. He has developed his research activity within the scope of the Tectonophysics and Experimental Tectonics (LATTEX) and at the Dom Luiz Associate Laboratory (IDL), in the fields of atmospheric refraction applied to space geodetic techniques and high-precision GPS applications. He has been a member of several national and international institutions and several international working groups, in the scope of the International Geodesy Association and the ILRS (International Laser Ranging Service) and collaborated in the elaboration of the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS) Conventions. He has been an investigator in several national and international projects. . He is a member of the Remote Sensing Reviewer Board. He regularly participates in scientific committees at national and international conferences. He is the author (co-author) of several articles in international journals with scientific refereeing. He supervised (co-supervised) doctorates and master's degrees.
