Thales Silva concluiu o Doutoramento em Doutorado em Física em 2016 pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Mestrado em Mestrado em Física em 2012 pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul e Bacharelado em Física em 2010 pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Atualmente, é investigador de pós doutorado no Instituto Superior Técnico da Universidade de Lisboa. Tem interesse em Física de Plasmas, em particular plasmas não-colisionais (dinâmica de Vlasov, teoria cinética, instabilidades), astrofísica no laboratório (fontes de radiação coerente, amplificação de campos magnéticos), interação de lasers e plasmas, aceleradores baseados em plasmas, simulações de plasmas (incluindo o uso de computadores de alto desempenho).
