A. Valente has a PhD in Chemistry from the Université Lille I-Sciences et Technologie, France (2010), whereby she acquired experience in polymerization catalysis and organometallic synthesis (lanthanides and ruthenium). She joined FCUL in 2010 where she did 2 postdocs in distinct areas of organometallic chemistry (non-linear optics and biomedical). In 2014, after a very competitive call, AV started an FCT Investigator position and independent research at CQE-FCUL where she developed polymer-metal conjugates for targeted cancer therapy. She merged her know-how in organometallic chemistry with her expertise in polymers to create this innovative family of compounds. The important results led AV`s team to patent this work (WO2016/087932) that has secured private investment and led to the creation of a spin-off (Something in Hands - Investigação Científica, Lda; rebranded as R-nuucell). R-nuucell has been a semi-finalist in the very competitive EIT Health InnoStars Awards 2021 and of EIT Health Catapult 2023-24 and has been one of the awardees of the Women TechEU (European Innovation Council). In 2019 AV won a contract in the frame of the CEEC Individual 2017 confirming the potential of her scientific path and research. During the last years, she expanded her panel of expertise, while at Rutgers University, USA, under the scope of a Fulbright Grant, in cell proliferation and viability assays, flow cytometry, and speciation and metal quantification by ICP-MS. So, AV path is marked by a thematic mobility and competences synergy allowing her to gain an extensive and wide-ranging experience in several key areas for the successful development of new anticancer drugs. She has so far 54 papers in international peer review journals (27 as senior corresponding author), 6 book chapters, and several conference proceedings, and was (co)author of ~75 talks in national and international conferences and seminars in post-graduate courses. AV was the Principal Investigator of two research projects funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), of a Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) project and was coordinator of the project CanceRusolution from Women TechEU. Presently, AV is the PI of an Innovation project awarded by FCUL and FCiências.ID. AV also participated in two COST actions and in two Transnational Cooperation Programmes and is currently team member of the COST action EURESTOP (CA21145). AV was also responsible for the scientific supervision and initiation to research of several students (15 grad. projects; 13 international projects (Erasmus or STSM), 16 MSc + 6 PhD thesis + 2post-doc).
