Carolina Vila-Chã holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Sports Science and a European Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, earned through
a joint program between the University of Porto (Portugal) and Aalborg University (Denmark). From 2007 to 2010, she was a
guest researcher at the Center for Sensory-Motor Interaction at Aalborg University. She has held teaching positions at the
Sports Departments of the Polytechnic Institutes of Bragança and Guarda (2000-2024), and was a researcher at the Research
Center in Sports, Health and Human Development (CIDESD), Portugal (2012-2024). In 2024, she was appointed Director of the
Higher School of Sport, Well-being and Biomedical Systems (ESDBESB) at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA),
Portugal. That same year, she joined the Center for Research & Innovation in Sports, Physical Activity and Health (SPRINT).
Her research focuses on assessing neuromuscular adaptations to training using advanced electromyography (EMG) techniques.
Her scientific interests also include neuromuscular changes related to aging, muscle fatigue, delayed onset muscle soreness
(DOMS), and their implications for motor control. More recently, she has been leading R&D projects in physical activity and
healthy aging. She has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and abstracts in these fields.
