I am a Biologist and graduated at the University of Bonn, Germany, in 1989, and obtained my PhD at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg. Following a post-doctoral research in Lisbon, I was recruited by the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge, in Lisbon, where I became an independent group leader in 1999. Since 2003, I am a staff Principal Researcher at Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge, and my current bibliographic data are 80 international peer reviewed publications, an h-index of 31 with over 3321 citations (according to Researcher ID (G-9335-2012) metrics in January 2024), 8 concluded PhD thesis supervisions, and PI of over 20 research grants over the last 25 years. My main research interest is signal transduction pathways in colon cancer. A major focus is the analysis of signalling pathways in cultured colorectal cancer cells, in particular concerning the small GTPases RAC1 or RAC1B, and the WNK family of protein kinases. Key methodological approaches include the analysis of RNA and protein expression, protein kinase and GTPase activity assays, protein complex analysis, and confocal microscopy.
