Simone completed his Master's studies in Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Naples Federico II in Italy in July 2017 and graduated with a final grade of 107/110. His Master's thesis dealt with the evolution of the adoption in Roman law. His Master's thesis supervisor was Professor Donato Centola, Professor in Roman Law. During his Master's degree, he also studied at the Faculty of Law of the University Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski in Warsaw, Poland during the academic year 2015¿2016. For these studies, he won an Erasmus Programme scholarship for the whole academic year. In December 2021, he published his first journal article titled "Man Made Famines: an International Crime. A Critique to the Current Gaps in the International Legal Framework." The article was published in the journal Polish Review of International and European Law (PRIEL), indexed on HeinOnline: https://doi.org/10.21697/priel.2021.10.2.01. In February 2023, he published his second journal article titled "Starvation at the International Criminal Court: Reflections on the Available Options for the Prosecution of the Crime of Starvation". The article was published in the journal International Criminal Law Review, indexed on SCOPUS: https://doi.org/10.1163/15718123-bja10149. Since September 2021, he has been a PhD candidate at NOVA School of Law, NOVA University in Lisbon. He is pursuing a four-year doctoral programme in law (Doutoramento em Direito) with a specialisation in international law. His research is currently focused on the field of international criminal law and he will write his doctoral thesis on the prosecution of peacetime starvation before the International Criminal Court. During the first year of the PhD he also received an Academic Merit Award for being the best student of the taught component of the PhD in Law for the academic year 2021¿2022. Since June 2022 he has been a researcher and collaborator at CEDIS, Centro de Investigação e Desenvolvimento sobre Direito e Sociedade (Research Center for Law and Society), at NOVA University in Lisbon. During the academic year 2021-2022, he was a guest lecturer for undergraduate students during three lessons of the course "Legal Information and Documentation" of Professor Giulia Priora at NOVA School of Law. In these lessons, he taught the students how to use legal sources databases for research and how to retrieve sources online. During the academic year 2022¿2023, he has also been a guest lecturer for undergraduate students during one of the lessons of the course "International Criminal Law" of Professor Athina Sachoulidou at NOVA School of Law. In this lesson, he taught the students about the war crime of starvation and crimes against humanity. Since November 2022, he has also been contributing to the organisations of the PhD seminar series "Seminário Permanente sobre o Estado e o Estudo do Direito" at NOVA School of Law in the role of Executive Coordinator. In one of these seminars, he also participated as the main speaker discussing the topic of his doctoral research and presenting the preliminary findings of his research. In August 2023 he was granted the FCT PhD Studentship for doctoral students granted by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. He has also been a member of the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP) since January 2024.
