Inês Catarina Duarte Carneiro is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (Cima) | Aquatic Research Network (ARNET). The title of her PhD thesis is Salt Marsh Ecogeomorphic Feedbacks, Plant Establishment, and Resilience. She holds a degree in Marine Biology (2021, University of Algarve, Portugal), and a MSc degree in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea) (2023, Ghent University, Belgium). From April 2024 to October 2024, Inês was a research fellow for the LIFE Ilhas Barreira project—Conserving the Barrier Islands in Algarve to Protect Priority Species and Habitats (LIFE18 NAT/PT/000927). From October 2024 to February 2025, she worked as a fellow on the C-Land project—Carbon Storage in Wetlands: Assessment and Maximization (ref. CEXC/4647/2024). As part of the MSc degree program, she undertook an internship at the University of Algarve, focusing on the status of wetlands restoration in the Ria Formosa Lagoon. During the pursuit of her master's thesis, she conducted an investigation into the challenges related to the transplantation of salt marsh vegetation within a rewilded, which resulted in a peer-reviewed scientific publication in STOTEN (Science of the Total Environment). She presented her research at international conferences, including a poster on sediment geochemistry at the 5th European Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change as co-author, an oral presentation on salt marsh transplants at the EGU General Assembly 2023, and a poster on salt marsh colonization challenges at the 8th Scientific Symposium for Students of Marine and Environmental Science. In 2025, she will deliver an oral presentation at the EGU General Assembly on "Identification of Ecological Zonation in Tidal Wetlands from High and Medium-Resolution Satellite Imagery" and at the Alternet Conference 2025 on "Challenges in Vegetation Restoration in Rewilded Salt Marshes." With a specific interest in salt marsh restoration strategies and the optimization of wetland-based solutions, committed to advancing knowledge in science and contributing to the sustainable management of coastal ecosystems. Her academic studies and professional experience have equipped her with proficiency in various IT tools and methodologies, including GIS software, programming languages (R and Python environments), Arduino, image editing software, and data analysis (Excel). Additionally, she has developed strong social skills and competencies in problem-solving, time management, computer literacy, teamwork, creativity, and communication.
