Gabriela concluded her master's degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Beira Interior in 2013, where she started her pioneer work in the biomaterials field with a project entitled "Manufacture of ß-TCP/alginate scaffolds through a Fab@home model for application in bone tissue engineering. After that, she moved to 3B's Research Group to work with marine biomaterials envisioning applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine approaches. In 2014, she was selected to participate in COHITEC as a member of a competitor team. The work developed by Gabriela in the recent past was mainly, but not only, focused on the overall work enrolled in its PhD, concluded in October 2020, that shed light on the processing of marine origin collagens for production of innovative biomaterials. During this journey, she mainly worked with composite materials, including blends of marine collagen and calcium phosphate by freeze-dry and 3D printing/bioprinting techniques. She collaborated with partners from different Universities, including the Universities of Vigo and Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and the Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil. In 2018, she won the IACOBUS program - papers with the University of Vigo. In 2019 Gabriela was selected to participate in the international BlueBioValue acceleration program (Oceano Azul and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundations), dedicated to bringing ocean-based, sustainable solutions to a new, blue bioeconomy. Currently, she is (co-)author of 18 papers (14 published and 4 submitted/prepared), 4 book chapters, cited 512 times (Google Scholar, 385 in Scopus), with an h-index of 10 (Google Scholar, 9 in Scopus), together with 7 oral presentations in 2 of the most important conferences in the field, from TERMIS-EU and ESB, and many posters in national and international conferences.
