Vera Lúcia Dias da Costa holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry (2022) from the University of Beira Interior (UBI), where she also earned an Integrated Master’s and a graduation degree in Industrial Chemistry. Currently, is a Contracted Researcher at UBI, working within the FibEnTech research group focused on Fiber Materials and Environmental Technologies. Expertise spans cellulose-based materials, sustainable composites, functional coatings, and environmental engineering solutions. Throughout the career, Vera has published 12 peer-reviewed articles in international journals. Has presented scientific work at international conferences, and actively participated in specialized training programs like Nature Masterclasses. Research contributions are closely tied to sustainability, circular economy, and advanced material development. Recently, has been involved in several funded research projects, notably InPaCTus – Innovative Products and Technologies from Eucalyptus and From Fossil to Forest – Sustainable Packaging and Products to Replace Fossil Plastics, as well as FCT-funded initiatives on fiber materials and environmental technologies. Has supervised three undergraduate projects and co-supervised one, served as a main arguer in academic juries, and contributed as a scientific journals peer reviewer. Main research interests include nanofibrillated cellulose, biodegradability, compostability, recyclability, and fiber-based materials development and technologies. The study quantified macro stickies and recyclability indicators, showing the grease-barrier paper achieved a high final score and was suitable for recycling, while the sugar-packet sample exhibited excessive macro stickies and was deemed unsuitable for recycling.
