Anna Olsson (I. A. S. Olsson) is Researcher and Group Leader at i3S-Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, University of Porto since 2004. She completed her MSc in Animal Science (1994) and her PhD in Ethology (2001) at the Swedish University of Agricultural University and was a Postdoc at Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Porto, and Danish Centre for Bioethics and Risk Assessment (2001-2004). Her research focuses on behaviour and welfare of domestic (laboratory, farm and companion) animals and ethics of (animal) research and technology. As a teacher, she has set up and coordinates training in laboratory animal science for researchers at i3S (FELASA accredited course) and the ethics module of several PhD programs (PDN, MCBiology, BioTechHealth) at the University of Porto. She is presently supervising 1 PhD student and has supervised 9 to successful completion. She chairs the institutional animal welfare and ethics review body since 2010. She leads the Portuguese 3R Knowledge Center (3RKC) since its establishment in 2023. She is President of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Swiss 3Rs Competence Centre (since 2023; member since 2018), Member of the International Advisory Council for Vilnius University Life Sciences Centre (since 2023), Member of the Steering Committee of the National Research Programme Advancing 3R: Animal, Research and Society, Swiss National Science Foundation (since 2021) and Trustee for Universities Federation of Animal Welfare / Humane Slaughter Association (since 2016). She is Editorial board member for the journal Laboratory Animals (since 2004), Academic editor for PLOS ONE (since 2016) and Gateway advisor for Veterinary Science at Open Research Europe (since 2023).
