Jorge Sousa holds a Master's degree in New Technologies of Contemporary Music: Creation and Performance from Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, a Master's degree in Music Education from University of Aveiro and a Bachelor's degree from ESMAE- Oporto School of Music and Performing Arts (Music Performance-Saxophone), under the guidance of Fernando Ramos and Henk van Twillert. He was awarded in various national and international competitions, such as the National Competition for Wind Instruments "Terras de La Salette", in Oliveira de Azeméis, and the Concorso Internazionale di Musica per Giovani Interpreti "Città di Chieri", in Turin. Jorge Sousa played with the Oporto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música, with the Remix Ensemble, with the Portuguese Saxophone Orchestra, with the Ensemble Vento do Norte, among others, performing in important national and international concert halls (Spain, The Netherlands, Italy, Austria, China, France, and Venezuela). He performed as a soloist with several wind bands, namely: Portuguese Symphonic Wind Band, ARMAB Symphonic Wind Band, Santa Maria da Feira Youth Symphonic Wind Band, Oporto Military Wind Band and PSP Symphonic Band. Sousa actively works on the creation of new repertoire, having collaborated with composers such as Francisco J. Collado, Daniel Martinho, Ricardo Matosinhos, Nuno Costa, Tjako van Schie, Alexandre Almeida, André Ramos, Chiel Meijering and Luisina Kippes. He performs regularly in important saxophone festivals and events, from which stand out the presentations at the World Saxophone Congress (Zagreb, 2018), at the European Saxophone Congress EuroSax (Oporto, 2017), at FISP (Palmela, 2019), and at the SaxoPorto Festival (Oporto, 2013). Additionally, he has been involved in different interdisciplinary projects, such as Banda Móvel (production of Radar 360o company), and was part of the production and organization of the Festival BSP Júnior, SaxoPorto 2013 and Gondo Sax Fest 2022. He has also devoted a segment of his professional journey to the saxophone teaching, accumulating more than 10 years of teaching experience at respected institutions, including the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral and the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho. Saxophonist at BSP and ARMAB, he is currently attending the Doctoral Program in Music at the University of Aveiro with a research focused on multimedia composition for saxophone regarding the performer’s perspective, developing it with funding from the FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology) and integrating the INET-md (DeCA-UA pole).
