Electrical Engineering and Computer Science MSc. graduate by Nova Lisbon University, interested in the social impact assessment of digital technology and the development of social innovation, currently conducting a Digital Media PhD in the same institution, supported by a Carnegie Mellon Portugal scholarship. The interest in the bridge between social change and digital technology was first manifested early in the MSc. studies with a project submitted to a college innovation contest. Named Mosaico, It considered the design of a spatial operating system for mobile devices, allowing to pin exclusively local applications and information to circumscribed spaces. Later in this graduation (2014) the recognition from faculty of the former initiative led to an invitation to represent the enrolled college in a national-wide contest set by a Portuguese utility company (EDP) to develop IoT innovation for the benefit of the energy grid. The participation with EGGY, an educative device connected to a gamified digital platform to promote the awareness and collective improvement of everyday behaviours related to energy use at home, was awarded as winner. This led to the founding of a startup company, run from academia and funded by EDP Inovação around this product. The role of product owner/designer, as well as the tasks of overall company and team management and representation, were assumed. A second project out of this startup initiative, Goaloria, sought to develop the team's experience in the design of transformative games, proposing to digitally augment foosball tables and facilitate localised rankings and singular and collaborative objectives that motivate the discovery and conquering of new playing sites. The failure in sustaining this endeavour led to joining a user-experience consulting company (Flour Consulting, 2019) with the personal goal of developing the toolset for qualitative research, co-design and interaction design by collaborating with experienced professionals in this field. Back in academia as a contracted researcher (Smart Fishing, MAR-01.03.01-FEAMP-0028, 2020) this accumulated experience was put to use in the field research and co-design of digital technology for the safety and sustainability of artisanal fishing/fishermen in Almada, Portugal, with the (conflicting) local fishing community. The role of product owner/designer was once again assumed, which included the tasks of conducting field research and the management of co-design sessions. A prototype composed of a boat device, a personal fisherman device and a digital platform was co-developed, targeting cooperation objectives between the various actors involved in this fishing practice - fishermen, authorities and regulators. Considered adequately supported by practice to fully invest in a definitive academic career, the doctoral program in Digital Media of Nova Lisbon University was enrolled in 2021, under the specialisation in Audiovisual Creation and Interactive Content, with the goal of developing and impact assessing childhood informal learning innovation - a subject intended to be a career-long focus.
