Patricia Palma is Full Professor of Polytechnic Institute of Beja (Department of Technology and Applied Sciences). She completed her Habilitation, in Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, at the University of Évora in 2020. She has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Toxicology specialty (Faculty of Pharmacy of Coimbra Portugal; 2009). She was member of the technical and scientific committee of Environmental Engineering Course (2009-2020). Member of the Scientific Council of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (2015-january 2018). Responsible for the Environmental Contamination and Risk Research Lab (ECORiskLab) of the IPBeja. Sub-Head of the Agrarian School of Polytechnic Institute of Beja (2022). Director of the Department of Technologies and Applied Sciences of the IPBeja, since December of 2023. Patrícia Palma lectures Biochemistry, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Toxicology. Currently, she is responsible for the scientific supervision/co-supervision of 3 PhD, 4 MSc (13 completed), 1 Graduation level (27 completed) students. She was member of scientific committee of the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research, University of Algarve, during 2012-2017. Since 2018, she is member of scientific committee of the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT), University of Évora. She develops scientific activities in the fields of environmental risk assessment of hazardous substances and emergent compounds, ecotoxicological methodologies applied to different environmental matrices/ compartments (soils, sediments and waters) and ecotoxicological models for the assessment of the potentially toxicity of environmental stressors, including pesticides, potential toxic metals and pharmaceuticals. She participates as coordinator or researcher in several national and international funded projects, namely on the development of ecotoxicological tools for assess the impact of agriculture activities/ pesticides uses, in strongly modified water bodies (ECOTOXTOOLS, ALOP), impact of the use of organic wastes in the recovery of degraded soils (ResOrgRisk, Life-NoWaste, SOLVO), environmental risk assessment of treated agro-industrial wastewaters (HydroReuse, NETA), biological/ecotoxicological tools for environmental risk assessment of pesticides (FitoFarmGest), use of IoT to improve the laboratory analysis (INCOME, AquaQ2, EngageSka). In the area, she published more than 50 articles. She integrates the Direction of the Southern Regional Commission of Water Resources Association. Membership of the Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Society (SETAC), and of the Portuguese Toxicology Association (AP Tox).
