Madalena Sandmann Corte-Real - PhD in Urban Studies in 2016 (Universidade Nova de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas), master’s in planning and Evaluation of Development Processes in 2008 (ISCTE Instituto Universitário de Lisboa) and degree in Sociology in 1995 (Universidade de Coimbra Faculdade de Economia). The PhD thesis (2011-2015) aimed to follow a revitalization process, an integrated approach in a deprived area through a partnership-driven programme. During the research, she was in Berlin in the Technische Universität, where she had contact with similar research and the Social City Programme. In 2022, she was involved in the Project "Lisbonds - Practices, Meanings and Contexts of Neighbourhoods in Greater Lisbon" a competitive research fund aimed at, from a sociological perpestive, analyse neighbouring pratices in a superdiverse territory (CICS.NOVA). She participated, between February 2020 and September 2022, in the project "Middle-Class Mass Housing in Europe, Africa, and Asia" (DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte) a competitive research fund, with an international team of researchers, including architects, architectural historians, and sociologists. Focusing on suburban middle-class housing estates, her emphasis was on the sociological aspects of the research (https://www.dinamiacet.iscte-iul.pt/research-projects/Collective/Middle-Class-Mass-Housing-in Europe%2C-Africa-and-Asia). Between November 2018 and June 2019, as a researcher at Cics.Nova (FCSH-UNL) she coordinated a project in view of the analysis of the meaning of the older part of Almada, a city in the south bay of the Tagus River, a work formed by a multidisciplinary team in urban studies (architecture/urbanism, landscape architecture/ecology, sociology/management) and commissioned by the local authority. Also as a researcher at Cics.Nova (FCSH-UNL), she participated in a Franco-Portuguese partnership, a competitive research fund aimed at comparing neighbourhoods in transformation in the inner parts of the cities of Lisbon and Marseille (Pessoa Programme (Lames (FR) and CICS.NOVA (PT). At FCSH-UNL (since 2020/2021) she is a lecturer in the Sociology Bachelor – Presently co-teaching in Sociology of the Territory and Urban Sociology as well as in the Sociology Master - Territory, Mobility, and Environment Seminar. She has been working at ISEC Lisboa (Instituto Superior de Educação e Ciências) since April 2018, first joining a research project on territorial management instruments and participatory processes (https://iseclisboa.pt/index.php/servicos/9- uncategorised/622-analysis-de-instrumentos-de -land-land-use). At this institution, she is also a lecturer responsible for the curricular units in Qualitative Analysis Methods, Regional and Urban Planning for a bachelor's degree, and Urban Planning, Land Management and Mobility for a master's degree, both in Local Government Management. Before the PhD, she worked for seven years at the Portuguese Institute against Drugs, where she was responsible for a programme at the regional level, the evaluation of project applications, the monitoring and evaluation of projects, the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, the preparation of annual reports, and contacts at a intersectoral level. Through the various projects, she gained a lot of experience in methods of qualitative and quantitative social research, transdisciplinary cooperation, and with various actors from academia, politics, public administration, and civil society as well as in the analysis of integrated socio-spatial approaches.
