Patrícia Calvário is a specialist in Medieval and Byzantine philosophy, with a particular focus on hesychasm and the vision of God. Currently a scientific collaborator at the Institut Supérieur de Philosophie, Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), Belgium, where she previously held an "FSR Fellowship" for a postdoctoral project on the vision of God in Second Scholasticism. Her research is internationally recognized, having obtained the "Herzog August Bibliothek Fellowship" (Germany) in 2022 and a highly competitive FCT PhD Grant. Calvário's doctoral dissertation, "Metaphysics of Light and the 'Absorption' of the Body by the Spirit in the Thought of Gregory Palamas", was successfully defended in 2019 and will be published in Brill’s Studies in Intellectual History (vol. 356) in December 2024. With presentations in diverse locations across Europe and Asia—including Macau, England, Germany, and Russia—her work demonstrates a global reach and deep scholarly influence. In addition to her numerous articles in international and national journals, she has contributed to several book chapters and edited volumes, solidifying her standing as a key voice in her field. Her ongoing research explores the intersections of theology, metaphysics, and epistemology, particularly within the context of Second Scholasticism, bringing new perspectives to longstanding philosophical questions.
