I did my PhD in a joint project between Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Portugal and the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, under co-supervision by Prof. Elvira Fortunato and Prof. Andreas Klein. Since 2016, I have a PhD degree in Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences from Portugal and a Doctor in Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) from Germany. During my PhD work, I developed profound methodological experience on in situ and ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). My work in this field contributed to expand the possibilities of this powerful analytic tool by developing novel experimental approaches, such as the combination with parallel in situ electrical characterization and the usage of the Auger parameter for the determination of energy band alignments at the nanoscale. In 2016, I was appointed responsible for the XPS activities at CENIMAT/I3N, with the installation of a new tool (700k€). Since then, I have been managing the surface analysis laboratory, including tool maintenance, in full independence. I am the principle operator (besides my PhD student) and perform all internal and external measurements for the group (collaborative and service). This also includes data analysis or the respective training of colleagues and students. With a strong background in semiconductor physics, my applied research interest is focused on the development of novel optoelectronic devices, such as memristors, as well as solar cells and photocatalysts. Related with my expertise in photoelectron spectroscopy, the unifying element in this broad collection of devices is the focus on interface properties and built-in potentials. Following this approach, I won a project grant as PI in 2022 from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) on “Sustainable Printed Memristors by Interface Tuning – Supreme-IT” (EXPL/CTM-REF/0978/2021).
