Félix Neto was born in the northeast of Portugal in 1950. He completed the undergraduate Psychology program (Maîtrise) at the University of Paris VII (1975). He earned the D.E.A (Diploma of Advanced Studies) in Normal and Abnormal Anthropology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and University of Paris V (France) (1976). He also earned a Ph. D. in Normal and Abnormal Anthropology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and University of Paris V (France) in 1980 and a Ph. D. in Social Psychology from the Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação (Universidade do Porto) in 1985. Both PhDs concerned the study of migrations. Aggregated Professor in Psychology at University of Coimbra in 1990. He has been assistant researcher at the "Centre Charles Richet d'Étude des Dysfonctions de l'Adaptation" (Paris), laboratory of the "Centre National de Recherche Scientifique" (CNRS) nº 220 in 1976. Since 1977 he has been teaching and researching at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences (still then called the Higher Course of Psychology) of the University of Porto, having successively passed the categories of Equivalent to Assistant, Assistant (1984), Assistant Professor (1985) and Associate Professor (1987). Since 1993 to 2020 he has been a "professor catedrático" of Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Porto, Portugal. He was regional representative for Europe of the "International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology" (1992-1994). He was scientific coordinator of the Psychology of Cognition, Affectivity and Cultural Context Unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology from 1994 to 2003. He served as vice-president of the Portuguese Society of Psychology from 1997 to 2002 and director of the Master in Intercultural Relations at the "Universidade Aberta" with annual editions in the north of the country (1996-2006). He was Director of the Doctoral Program in Psychology of the University of Porto (2013-2019) and coordinator of the course of Psychology of the Elderly (2009-2011) and Psychogerontology (2016-2020) integrated in the Master in Psychology Themes. He was a visiting professor at several European universities to hold conferences and courses mainly in the field of Intercultural Psychology. He has been involved in international projects such as the ICSEY project ("International Comparative Study of Ethnocultural Youth"), ISATIS ("International Study of Attitudes Toward Immigration and Settlement") and MIRIPS (Mutual Intercultural Relations in Plural Societies) examining the role of Portuguese emigration and immigration in Portugal within the international context. His research interests include cross-cultural psychology and social psychology. Among the themes of his interest, in addition to migrations, include love, ethnic attitudes, subjective well-being, implicit cognitions, gender stereotypes, self-assessed intelligences, risk perceptions, reduction of prejudice, loneliness, forgiveness, and saudade. He has published 19 books, and more than 400 articles and book chapters in Portuguese, English, and French languages. On March 22, 2021, he was granted the title of Professor Emeritus of the University of Porto (Order Nº GR.14.01.21).
