Marisa Balas

Marisa Balas has more than 25 years of professional experience in Africa, managing projects, coordinating with governments, multilateral/bilateral institutions, private sector and educational institutions. Her work focuses on improved services delivery through the design and development of Digital Platforms both for public and private sector; technical assistance in areas of project management, data modelling, data management, digital transformation; solutions development for enhanced governance and citizen engagement. More recently, Marisa is involved in the promotion of Women's Land Rights, chairing a working group within commission 7 of FIG. Her PhD research focuses on the barriers to gender equality in land access and land tenure security and potential mitigation measures, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. She holds a Master of Science in ICT Management from TUDelft (Netherlands); a Diploma in management, part of MBA, from Henley Business School (ZA and UK); Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate from PMI (USA); Practical Project Management (PPM) certificate from UNISA (ZA); Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) Master level (USA), and an EFQM Assessor Certificate from EFQM (Belgium). She has published several articles in journals and conferences, mostly related to the projects and initiatives where she worked or piloted solutions, including the WorldBank Land and Poverty, FIG WW and congresses.
