Filipe Soares is a Senior Scientist at Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS, who holds a Ph.D. with the highest honors in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Beira Interior. He started as a researcher in medical imaging at Siemens Healthcare, in the field of computer-aided detection and diagnosis of Breast Cancer, in a project for which he received the Siemens Innovation Award in 2012. He worked as a software engineer in telecommunications and embedded systems at Nokia Siemens Networks in 2013. Filipe is an expert in computer vision, intelligent and decision support systems working for several sectors such as Manufacturing and Healthcare, mostly in Ophthalmology (more than 8 years). He has been working in responsible AI for CADx in Diabetic Retinopathy and Glaucoma and developing a new mobile device for retinal imaging. He also has knowledge of patent protection, clinical research and protocol design for data collection. He has experience in project management and project acquisition within Intelligent Systems, in Applied Research & Development and Software Engineering in AI. He has relevant experience in conceptualizing and implementing award-winning and innovative R&D projects, from business understanding to real-world testing, collaborating and oversight multiple stakeholders as clients, partners and vendors for timely delivery of outcomes with excellent quality.
