During my research career, I have studied the cellular mechanisms of disease, focusing the heart and brain. I did my PhD and a first postdoctoral stay at the Hospital U. la Princesa, (Immunology department) with a BEFI fellowship (Ministerio de Sanidad y Consumo, 1999-2002) and I published 4 first author or first co-author publications in Blood, JBC, J. Immunology and Arthritis Rheum. Funded by an IF Marie Curie fellowship (2005-2007), I then moved to the National Institute for Medical Research (MRC, London) for 5.5 years, under the direction of Dr. Lovell-Badge, to study the regulation of neural stem cells by the endothelium (Gomez-Gaviro et al., J. Cardiovasc. Transl. Res. 2013; Gomez-Gaviro Meth. Mol. Biol. 2013; Gómez-Gaviro* et al., PNAS 2012). In 2010 I moved to Hospital Gregorio Marañón, funded by a second IF Marie Curie fellowship (2011-2013) (Cuadrado*, Gomez- Gaviro*, Biochem Pharmacol. 2014; *joint first author). During this three years I set up different surgical and molecular biology techniques in the field of cardiology and we studied the cardioprotective effects of the DT1 diterpene in the context of ischemia/reperfusion. In 2013 I joined the Medical Imaging Laboratory at the HGM and I opened a new line of research focused in Optics and Tissue Biology. I am now principal investigator Group Leader of this research line and I have published 9 articles as a senior author (Last or corresponding). I am currently investigating new technologies for 3D brain visualization. I have tutored more than 20 Master thesis and Degrees and currently I am the director of 2 doctoral thesis. I am a teacher in: Máster universitario de investigación en Medicina Traslacional (Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2017-)) and Máster in Física Médica. (UNED (2017-)). Principal Investigator in 3 Projects. More than 30 Publications in indexded journals with 9 publications as a senior and/or corresp. author. Total citations of more than 1230.
