João Martins
João Carlos Martins holds a Ph.D in Sociology (2015) by by NOVA University of Lisbon. Has a masters in urban Anthropology
(2009) by ISCTE and Degree in Sociology (2004) by NOVA University of Lisbon. Is an Integrated Member CinTurs, Research Center
for Tourism Sustainability and Wellbeing at the University of the Algarve (Portugal), and Associated Member of CICS.NOVA,
Center for Interdisciplinary Social Sciences of the NOVA University of Lisbon. Actual scientific interests are around urban
transformation, particularly on multidimensional questions around Urban and Sustainable Tourism, Leisure and Nightlife, Participation
and Action-Research, Cultural Heritage, Creative and Knowledge Cities, Young People and Citizenship, Sports and Contemporary
societies. Works in the area(s) of Social Sciences with emphasis on Sociology, Anthropology and Economic, Cultural and Social
Geography with emphasis on Urban Tourism and Sustainability. Since 2007 developed individual and collective academic papers,
chapters, and project report submissions. Has 360 citations (h-index 7 and i10-index 4) on Google Scholar, from a total of
39 publications: 23 articles, most of them in open access (12 indexed in Scopus), Edited 2 Books, 9 Book chapters (1 in IGI
Global and 1 in Routledge), 1 newspaper article, 3 Project reports and 1 working paper. Has a teaching experience of more
of 12 years with undergraduate, master's and Summer Schools students in Sociology, Tourism, Sports, Urban Studies, Territory
and Cultural Heritage at the University of Algarve, New University of Lisbon and University of Lisbon in total of 343 hours.
Today is Invited Assistant Professor in the Degree of Sociology in the Faculty of Economics of the University of the Algarve.
Has a strong research experience as coordinator and team member funded by FCT, INTERREG, Horizon 2020 projects and municipality
of Lisbon: (2023-2026) PERICREATIVITY, FCT, ref. PTDC/SOC-SOC/08993/2022; as member of the research and analysis team. (2021-2022)
ArtCitizenship: young people and the arts of Citizenship: activism, participation and creative practices, FCT, ref PTDC/SOC-SOC/28655/2017.
Had the responsibility of data analyzing, dissemination and communication, as well as the submission of international peer
reviewed articles. (2020-2021) BEST MED, BEYOND EUROPEAN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MED, INTERREG, ref 5987. Was a professional consultant
on the areas of Cultural Heritage, Urban Tourism, Sustainable Development, Governance and Participation, Auscultation and
Stakeholders Engagement. It had responsibilities on research about Cultural Routes and Stakeholders Participation. It had
also responsibilities on international partners engagement and compliance. (2018-2020) ROCK: Regeneration and Optimization
of Cultural Heritage in Creative and Knowledge Cities, : Horizon 2020, ref 730280. Was responsible for its territorial diagnosis
and the analysis of cultural heritage led-urban regeneration processes. (2017-2020) Project Rede Rés do Chão Marvila, BIP/ZIP,
Lisbon Municipality, ref. 10; Became a fieldwork coordinator of community intervention and citizen participation in social
housing areas. (2015-2018) SAFE!N, Project BIP/ZIP, Lisbon Municipality, ref. 95. Was a scientific advisor addressing the
recent mass transformation of a traditional Lisbon¿s nightlife neighborhood (Cais do Sodre). Has organized more than 37 events
as conference chair (3), workshop coordinator (3) and several fieldwork visits to international projects, Ph.D., and Master
students (16) and others. Developed 45 communications, 20 as invited and 25 in International (22) and National (3) Conferences.
Has revised 12 articles (2 indexed in Scopus) as well as jury in academic and professional calls.
