Isabel Cordeiro Santos graduated in Chemical Engineering (Glass, Ceramics and Binders) in 1984 from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM), Sofia, Bulgaria (1985 - equivalence to Ceramic and Glass Engineering by the University of Aveiro) and got her PhD in Chemistry from Instituto Superior Técnico- Universidade Técnica de Lisboa in 2001. She is Auxiliary Researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico - University of Lisbon. She has published 180 articles in peer-reviewed journals (h-index 29 with over 2882 citations). She participates/d as a researcher in more than 20 research projects having been principal researcher in one (POCTI/QUI/45108/2002). She is involved in training and supervising PhD students in the use of RX diffraction techniques and structural analysis. Works in the area of exact Sciences with emphasis on Chemical and material Sciences. Her main scientific activity is focused on structural characterization by X-ray diffraction with the aim of establishing a correlation of crystalline and molecular structures with properties observed in inorganic, organic, coordination and organometallic compounds in particular electrical, magnetic and other unconventional properties. Crystal engineering has been used as a tool in design and search of new materials with the desired properties. Her main area of research is associated with low-dimensional magnetic and conductive molecular materials, such as perylene compounds with dithiolate metal complexes . This area has expanded to tetrathiafulvalene salts (TTF) and their derivatives used as building blocks in multifunctional materials. Special emphasis has been given to: single component molecular metals (SCMM) within neutral transition metal complexes; TTF salts with Transition Metal Bis-1,2-dithiolene Complexes with N-Coordinating Groups; Molecular Conducting Bilayers; Molecular Magnetic Conducting Bilayers; Multifunctional materials with Spin Crossover (SCO) behaviour. In the radiopharmaceutical sciences the structural analysis of coordination and organometallic complexes of d-and f- transition metals (Zn, Cu, Ni, Au, Ga, Re, In and others) with relevance for biomedical applications, namely as anticancer or antimicrobial agents or radiopharmaceuticals has been a constant throughout his work. The studies of chemistry, reactivity and properties of molecular compounds of lanthanides and actinides (uranium, thorium and others) also have an important place with several publications in peer-review journals of significant impact.
