Ana Isabel Baião Vieira

Ana Baião is a PhD student at Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S) of University of Porto (Portugal). She holds an MSc degree in Molecular Biomedicine from University of Aveiro (2019), and a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Pharmacy from Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra (2017). In 2018, she had the opportunity to integrate the Nanomedicines & Translational Drug Delivery group at i3S, where she developed her master's thesis under the supervision of Dr. Bruno Sarmento. This work was focused on the development and characterization of nanomedicines loaded with therapeutic antibodies and functionalized at the surface to specifically target colorectal cancer cells and resulted in a published paper in the high-impact journal Biomaterials Science. In 2020, she was selected for a research scholarship at i3S where she had integrated projects related to oral delivery of resveratrol, implantable drug delivery systems and ocular drug delivery. Her participation in these projects resulted in the publication of a review article and a book chapter. In 2021, she was awarded with an honorable research scholarship from Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro - Núcleo Regional do Norte (LPCC-NRN) which provided her the opportunity to continue to work at i3S in the field of nanomedicine and targeted drug delivery applied to cancer treatment. In 2022, she started her PhD in the Doctoral Programme on Cellular and Molecular Biotechnology Applied to Health Sciences (BiotechHealth), from Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto (ICBAS-UP).
