Joana Oliveira got her Masters in Veterinary Medicine in 2019 at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (Lisbon, Portugal). For her Masters dissertation, she did the histological characterisation of the NLrp3 inflammasome in the ovary of obese mice; that time, she developed her research in two laboratories: at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (Lisbon) and at the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Olsztyn, Poland). As a result of her research in Poland, she is the co-author of a paper published in Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology (2021). She was awarded a Bolsa de Mérito do Ano Letivo 2018/2019, by Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior (Ministery of Science and Higher Education), for the outstanding classification in her Masters dissertation. From February 2020 to April 2022 she worked as a veterinarian at a veterinary clinic, focusing her practices on small animal internal medicine and surgery. Since October 2022 she is a Biomedical Sciences PhD student at Egas Moniz School of Health and Science (Monte de Caparica, Portugal) working on urban organic waste bioremediation by the Black Soldier Fly larvae.
