Manuel Caño-García is a research fellow (MSCA-COFUND) at the Nanophotonics department. His research revolves around the development of active photonics integrated circuits (PICs) with metamaterials or photonics crystals technologies for bio- sensing. Manuel received his two Master degrees (M.Sc. Physics and M.Eng. Electronic engineer) from the University of Granada. After that, he obtained another M.Sc. in nanophysics from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He gained his PhD degree of photonics (summa cum laude) and the title of international PhD from the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) in 2018 within a Spanish official grant (FPI 2014). He was involved in 2 European projects and 3 Spanish national projects. During the PhD, Manuel got a Spanish grant (4-month internship) where he went to IMEC (Ghent, Belgium). In 2018, Manuel held a (Spanish grant FPI-POP) Post-Doctoral Fellowship at R&D Centre of advanced materials and devices for TIC where he developed his own project on polymers PICs. During the Post-Doctoral period, Manuel got another grant (1-month internship, UPM grant) where he went to the Sydney Nano Hub, the Sydney University. The background of Manuel is not only based on research (9 journal articles), he also has background in dissemination (more than 15 oral presentation, 2 congress organized & several seminars), technology transfer (2 patents registered) and lectures (260h in degrees and master degrees) in his short career (up to 4/2019 when he join to INL).
