Svilen S. Valtchev is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics of School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic of Leiria, Leiria, Portugal. He holds a PhD in Mathematics (2008) from Instituto Superior Técnico of the Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal and a BSc degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (2002) from the same institute. Prof. Valtchev is also a researcher at Center for Computational and Stochastic Mathematics (CEMAT/IST-ID) of Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. His research interests include, but are not limited to, meshfree numerical methods for partial differential equations and their applications to acoustic and elastic wave propagation problems. He has also worked on numerical methods for integral equations. Prof. Valtchev has authored and co-authored more than 30 research papers, book chapters and conference articles on meshfree methods and he has co-organized 6 international conferences, including the ENUMATH 2023 conference in Lisbon, Portugal. He is also a co-editor of 2 proceedings books and 2 special issues and a reviewer for a number of international journals on applied and numerical mathematics.
